Dear Clients,
May we inform you that from 12th May 2020, two very significant new regulations from the Department of Health (Ministerio de Sanidad) of the Spanish Government came into force. Please see below the most important points of both instructions:
Temporary reintroduction of checks at internal borders by air and sea:
1. Controls at internal borders by air and sea shall be temporarily reintroduced from 00.00 on 15 May 2020 until 00.00 on 24 May 2020 (the current Estate of Alarm).
2. Only the following persons shall be allowed to enter the national territory by air and by sea.
(a) Spanish citizens.
(b) Residents of Spain, who will have to prove their habitual residence.
(c) Cross-border workers.
(d) Health professionals or those caring for the elderly who are going to carry out their work activity.
(e) Those who provide documentary proof of force majeure or situation of need.
Please bear in mind that the Government has clarified that point (b) refers to those people who are residents only, not those with a property in Spain.
Quarantine period:
1. Persons coming from abroad must be quarantined for 14 days from the date of their arrival.
2. During the quarantine period, the persons referred to in the previous paragraph must remain in their home or accommodation, and must limit their movements to the performance of the following activities only:
(a) Purchase of food, pharmaceutical products, and basic necessities.
(b) Assistance to health centers, services, and establishments.
(c) Due to force majeure or a situation of need.
All movements must be made with a mask.
These new instructions are in force until May 24th but please bear in mind that both may be extended.
