CORK SOCCER STAR SHOWS HIS POTENTIAL AT ATHLETICO MADRID TRIAL

Cork-native, Brian McCarthy, has become one of the first Irish soccer players to have a trial with Primera Liga outfil, Atlético Madrid. The 22 year old travelled to the Spanish capital with his Irish-based agent, Álvaro Blasco, to train at the clubs “Cerro de Espino” training grounds.

Speaking of his experience in Madrid, Brian said “I went out there and gave it my all, and although I found the level of football challenging, I am delighted to say that I held my own and value the experience of being able to play at this level, I am very pleased with how I did”. Coaches at Atlético Madrid said, “Brian has very unique skills and could be a great asset to any club where he can develop his game in the next two years. Definitely he is a player to be following for the near future for us”. The 6ft 5inch centre back played for Longford Town FC last season, on loan from Bohemians.
